Findlater Saint Lawrence

Howth, North Dublin

This redevelopment of the site of the former St. Lawrences Hotel on Harbour Road makes the most of this striking water front location over looking the fishing harbour in Howth. The development involved the retention of two landmark buildings: the villa and the Findlater Building, and integrating these with a modern apartment building, entertainment complex, an underground carpark and extensive retaining wall system.

The project consists of the refurbishment and part reconstruction of the villa to residential use, acting as a centre piece to the residential element of the scheme, consisting of 58 apartments. The two modern wings are three storeys high with large pent house apartments set back at roof level.

The Findlater building is a late Nineteenth Century, three storey building, located at the front of the site adjacent to the entrance to the basement carpark. The main building was demolished leaving the historic facade in situ. A basement level with direct access to the carpark was provided. Two three storey glazed structures were added to the sides, one curved in plan, taking advantage of the harbour views and the second containing access to the upper storey restaurant and acting as a book end to the building.
