The Church of the Annunciation is one element of a two phase project which comprises:

a) the building of a new purpose designed church for 650 people.
b) the conversion and extension of the existing church/ community hall to cater for a
variety of pastoral and community activities.

The brief stipulated that the church be spatially generous, intimate in atmosphere
and maximise the use of natural light. The intimate atmosphere is to prevail even
when the building is sparsely populated.

The congregation is gathered around the celebrant / sanctuary area in an amphitheatre
arrangement. The greatest intensity of natural light is reserved for the tabernacle
which is lit naturally from above.

The curved geometry is relaxed externally to emphasise church entrances.
