The brief from UCD required that the Department of Regional and Urban Planning
should have an additional teaching studio, computer room, offices and ancillary
accommodation contained within a new building which would provide the
Department with a new separate entrance and that the proposed circulation would
link into the existing building.
We created a visual pedestrian link from the quadrangle to a newly formed landscaped
courtyard to the front of the new Department building.
The studio space has been designed as a single volume which adjoins and aligns
with the existing two storey building.
The studio which has large north light glazing provides a flexible space to allow
teaching to be carried out informally around student desks or alternatively for formal
lectures. The computer bank is located in a single height volume away from
daylight glare.
