The existing school buildings were built in 1972 and caters for both day and border
students with a student population of 600 approximately.
The proposal is in three parts:
Refurbishment of the existing dormitory buildings: a new pitched roof was constructed
above the existing flat roof buildings. The pitched roof has been designed
to tie together the various elements of the complex in one architectural element.
The interiors of the existing buildings were refurbished to provide smaller dormitories
of 5-6 students, each with its own en-suite facility. Four number disabled accessible
bedrooms are provided.
A new two storey building with a pitched roof and a pedestrian link to an internal
courtyard was built, connecting the two existing buildings. This two storey structure
mainly contains student dormitories, but also contains two number staff apartments.
The original staff accommodation at the end of the buildings were demolished.
Three number staff residences were built adjacent to the dormitories and close to an
existing staff residence forming a staff residential cluster separate to the main school
for privacy and adjacent to facilitate supervision.
