The site is situated at the junction of Castlepark Road and Dundela Park. The clients,
who are avid gardeners, stipulated that all mature trees and boundary hedges were
to be retained. Their brief stresses the importance of maximising daylight and sunlight,
bringing the sun into all the living spaces and principal bedrooms.
The design was to be functional, easily maintained and labour saving, but above
all had to integrate the living spaces with the garden. The position of the existing
mature trees and desire for maximum sunlight dictated the building form. The
choice of materials was dictated by the setting. The integration of house and garden
is reinforced by carrying the brickwork through from outside to inside.
