“Whites Pharmacy” is a three-storey protected structure, facing High Street with one
two-storey and one three-storey extension to the rear facing Pudding Lane. Built
towards the end of 18th century (c. 1790), the building is located in a very prominent
location of Kilkenny City, adjacent to the crossing of High Street, Patrick Street and
The Parade, and nearby Kilkenny Castle.

The scheme consisted of the refurbishment of the building together with interior
alterations. On the ground floor the new interior layout re-arranges the pharmacy,
dispensary and camera sales section, including a new entrance and shop-front from
Pudding Lane, providing the shop with alternative access and walk-through option.
New feature open stairs of steel and glass together with void to front and rear links
the ground and first floor and provides the shop with grandeur and light. The existing
roof over the two-storey extension to the rear was removed, and replaced with
a new roof with exposed trusses and large rooflight which floods the rear section of
the shop with natural light. The storage area is relocated on the second floor while
ancillary office and extra store occupy the attic.

The fit out materials include American Walnut, glass, stainless steel and cream porcelain
tiles. The dark woods and use of glass make reference to the dark woods often
found in the by gone day of the traditional medical hall.
